ABOUT BRENDAN GUY COUGHLAN

Brendan is a South African artist based in Centurion Gauteng. He is a singer/ songwriter playing acoustic and electric guitar respectively. Growing up around the SA music scene, Brendan has extensive knowledge and experience with Music, Guitars and Live performances.

1997 - 2009

FORMATIVE YEARS

Brendan received his first guitar at age 6 and started playing seriously from 11 years old. His love for playing guitar grew and flourished. he was part of many school bands, would often take his guitar to school where he'd practice during breaks and entered any/ all talent shows. Lots of fun was had!

2010 - 2015

FIRST LIVE PERFORMANCES

While studying at COPA, Brendan started gigging with Gerrit Van Der Merwe. Being flooded with gigs, Brendan became a music School dropout. The stage was calling on Brendan! Brendan had the privilege of being a part of Brian Finch's "Once In A Lifetime" live recording show. Shortly afterwards he joined Spitfire Choir, a cover band playing the Joburg cover scene. Wrapping up hours of gigs. In between Brendan also performed as a duo with his cousin Dylan Pretorius.

2015 - Present

MUSICAL COLLABORATION AND CURRENT EVENTS

Thriving and striving as a young artist, Brendan started performing as a duo with band mate Rossouw starting out small by playing local pubs. Soon they expanded into playing at Corporate Gigs, Private Parties and Weddings, thus Monkeys Wedding was born. A three piece guitar, bass and drums band (Brendan, Rossouw and Brink). Covering beloved tunes. But they didn't stop there, the creative bug bit and Monkeys Wedding recorded an EP as "Everheard". The newly found band enjoyed a good amount of airplay on local radio stations.

Due to Monkeys Wedding's popularity they had to put "Everheard" on the back burner. Brendan has always enjoyed collaborating with other artists which has resulted in numerous duo's, often performing at upmarket Restaurants and functions. Never being one to stay stuck in his comfort zone, Brendan is currently focusing on evolving as a solo artist, relishing in the freedom and opportunity as a one piece, he thoroughly adores looping/ acoustic/ blues and putting his voice to the test.

Cherished by both the audience and fellow musicians alike. Brendan already has plenty of accomplishments on his belt, with a twinkle in his eye and a never ending endearment for all things music, he looks forward to what the future has in store for him.
